I’m not sure, but I have a
feeling I probably wrote this poem while I was staying in Niigata in 2004,
where I stayed in a very tall hotel. My room had an expansive view
of the sea, which was particularly enchanting in the nighttime. It was during
the typhoon season though, and the hotel was so tall, I remember it swayed a
lot in the high winds.
Squid boats –
bobbing bright lights
on the horizon.
