Jan Sevcik - Green Woodpecker, Picus viridis (NaturePhoto) |
A few years ago, I used to spend
a lot of time in Madrid and when I wasn’t working, there was nothing I liked
better than to go and sit and read in the Retiro. I think it is one of the
nicest public parks in the world. I spent many contented hours there. This
poem was inspired by something I saw when glancing up from whatever I was
reading, whilst I was sitting on the grass in the green shade.
Beneath tall trees,
his beak, makes no sound,
foraging in the grass
– green woodpecker.
