Empty Wharf

(Leaf 115) – Homeward Bound

Previously, I spent many years living in London’s Docklands, and before that I often used to stay at my grandparent’s cottage beside the Grand Union Canal. One thing that has always amazed me is how the sound of bird calls are amplified over water, but some birds seem to be much louder than others.

A strange shout shrills

across an empty wharf

– a coot’s quick indignation.
